Data Scientist - London, UK

This is an exciting opportunity to join our R&D as a Data Scientist. You will play a key role in help improve our personalisation models and algorithms that power a wide range of solutions for the Episerver customer base. The role offers broad exposure to machine learning, big data analytics and development. You will be part of a highly innovative team working on interesting and difficult problems, leveraging cutting edge technology to build personalised services used by millions of end-users. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and experience in solving tough problems in ecommerce or other verticals that use large datasets. You will be a highly intelligent self-starter with a strong bias towards action and attention to detail.

How to Excel at Episerver

  • Assist with the implementation and scaling-up of algorithms for bespoke recommendation engines serving hundreds of brands
  • Investigate and create prototypes for new personalisation algorithms and turn machine-learning outputs into operational data products
  • Analyse large, complex datasets to reveal underlying patterns, correlations and trends quantitatively
  • Leverage quantitative techniques to answer non-routine business problems.
  • Time series and data-driven analysis on customer behaviours.
  • Set up and conduct large-scale experiments to test hypotheses and drive product development

Essential Requirements

  • MSc degree or equivalent in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics or similar quantitative discipline
  • Reasonable development knowledge in Java (or Scala)
  • Proficiency in Python (or R) and SQL, and experience in developing and deploying models to a production system or commercial use
  • Hands-on skills in machine learning techniques with demonstration in academic publications and/or online competitions like KDD-Cup, Kaggle etc.
  • Familiar with one or more machine learning algorithms: content / collaborative filtering, NLP, non-linear/deep regressions, boosted trees, ensembles etc.
  • Thorough understanding of full modelling process: exploratory data analysis, feature engineering/selection, multi-layer cross validations
  • Experience in developing prediction models in e-commerce or digital marketing
  • A good understanding of statistics (e.g., hypothesis testing, non-parametric methods)
  • Ability to work collaboratively and proactively in a fast-paced environment interacting with both a non-technical and technical audiences
  • Knowledge of big data systems and NoSQL databases

Preferable qualifications and skill set

  • A PhD in a quantitative subject
  • Experiences with big data frameworks i.e. Spark, Hadoop, Kafka etc.
  • Previous experience with recommender systems
  • Commercial mindset and interest in digital and web content
  • A hacker’s mentality to problem solving
  • Comfortable in using open source technologies
  • Interest in keeping up with state-of-the-art machine learning by attending and submitting papers to relevant conferences
  • Knowledge or experience in developing/deploying to AWS or Azure
