The web important to the visually impaired

A website for everyone

Capesand was chosen by Synskadades Riksförbund, SRF  Stockholms och Gotlands län to develop the organization’s new website and we asked ourselves how visually imparied are using the web. The answer we got was that the web is an important communication channel for visually imparied and that it usually works as expected if the user is using a help programme in the computer.  The focus during the project has been to develop a web solution that is appealing both for visually impaired and sighted. It has resulted in a new and more accessible web with a distinct and attractive interface. It is easy to fill the forms and the error messages are clear. On the web the members of SRF Stockholms och Gotlands läns can register to events and it is also possible to subscribe to news from the website.

EPiServer CMS as the platform

The solution is based on EPiServer CMS6 and is accessibility adapted to support screen viewers as JAWS, SuperNova, ZoomText and WindowEyes. There is also a listen-function on the website. Many of the editors at SRF Stockholms och Gotlands län are blind and are using keyboard commands instead of a mouse t onavigate. To make these editors able to work with the website in a simple and easy way a edit interface has been developed so the editors can add articles and news without right clicks and pop-ups.
